I live in a neighborhood where seeing police officers with a car pulled to the side of the road, is more common than not. But have the finance issues within the city of Cleveland gotten so bad that police are issuing unfair tickets?
The Ohio Supreme Court recently ruled that police officers have the RIGHT to use unaided visual means to determine if a car is going faster than the posted speed limit. Meaning, they no longer have to rely on the accuracy of a radar gun. The Supreme Court feels that police officers are well trained to the point that their visual assessments of a drivers' speed is valid enough to JUSTIFY issuing a speeding ticket. While it may seem unfair to many, I advise you to just take the ticket and deal with it. It has already been proven that the courts will rule in favor of the issuing officer, so going to court with the prepared lines and excuses will not help in any case. This is just as annoying as the cameras that they have put up in various intersections throughout the city that take a picture of your license plate when you are speeding. The ironic part is that its easier to get out of paying one of those tickets than it will be to get out of one where the officer has no proof beyond his gut feeling. This new ruling is a clear cut case of having to take it up the rear and like it. Thank goodness I don't drive anymore, so unless they come up with a law for walking fast I am in the clear.,
Many people who I spoke to on the subject feel that the police are already petty and issue many of their tickets just because "they can." I myself used to have this same argument, but sometimes people have to look at the bigger picture. Police officers are underpaid for one of the most difficult and scariest positions on the planet. They deal with gun toting, gang banging, one flew over the coo coos nest, nut jobs almost everyday. You hate to get pulled over by a cop but the first number you dial when your house is broken into, your child has been abducted, you have a stalker ex banging on your door, or you get robbed is 9-1-1. And who do they send? That's right! THE POLICE. And I am sure that everyone who reads this will agree that they have been happy to see them (police officers) during any time of distress.
Love them or hate them they have a job to do like anyone else, and if they didn't issue these tickets that we tend to feel are unnecessary, the city will lose more revenue, which in turn will cause more law enforcement officers to be laid off.
If that happens.... Who You Gonna Call?
